Practicing high-performance swimming comes with a lot of sacrifices and self-discipline. Apart from your eagerness to conquer new competitions and set up new world records, you need to be 100% comfortable with what you wear in the pool, and that doesn’t only include your swimming suit or shorts, but also all the other accessories that help you perform better.

And we don’t know about you, but for numerous people, swimming goggles are probably the most uncomfortable invention to put up with. You can rarely find a pair that fits and stays glued to the eyes without having to adjust them constantly. So how do you deal with all this?

Luckily, if you’re looking for a new pair of customized goggles for swimmers, there are some options on the market. Here is everything you need to know about them and how they fit.

Regular goggles

According to recent surveys conducted on thousands of professional swimmers all around Europe, up to 80% experience troubles with their swimming goggles. Most of them complain about water leaking into their glasses, while around 65% of people deal with general discomfort. Unfortunately, this has also been the case of famous athlete Michael Phelps, who has experienced a goggles malfunction during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

General problems you may experience with regular goggles

If you wish to become a professional swimmer, the general discomfort of wearing a regular pair of goggles for open water swimming seems like part of the game.

Just as with picking a pair of regular sunglasses, swimming goggles come in various sizes and designs. The lenses should be a perfect match for your eyes, while the overall fit should be snug but not uncomfortable. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always happen, and athletes with smaller heads, for instance, often struggle to find a pair of goggles that stay fit.

Another problem swimmers constantly experience is water leaking. This could lead to serious health problems in the long term, especially since most training pools are treated with chlorine and other water-irritating substances.

Indentation marks are also annoying as they take forever to disappear from your face. Therefore, most athletes or amateur swimmers can rarely schedule a meeting or any other type of social event right after their swimming sessions without looking like complete aliens with indentations from uncomfortable goggles.

And what about the general discomfort of having to adjust your goggles every few seconds? Beginners and professional swimmers alike lose precious time having to adjust their eye accessory constantly. This leads to unnecessary moves of the arms and precious energy wasted on this action.

Custom-fitted goggles

So how can these things change in the near future? We live in a world ruled by the laws of technology. Drones, robots, and 3D printers have now become the norm in the worldwide industry of manufacturing products, and it wasn’t before long a company decided to benefit from all these technologies to create a pair of goggles that are 100% customizable.

Recently released on the market in 2018, a Danish company wishes to challenge and change the way we buy and use our swimming goggles. And, since one size fits only one swimmer, they had to come up with a software that is sophisticated enough to be able to create your own swimwear accessories from scratch.

How does it work?

Based on complicated facial recognition and construction software, as well as 3D printers and the highest quality materials, the company is able to create goggles that are suitable for you and you alone.

Therefore, each pair is unique and has to be ordered individually. It takes around a week until the product is made, passes all quality tests, and is ready to be delivered to swimmers, so you may want to take that into account if you plan on ordering a pair.

The ordering process is quite simple and futuristic at the same time. First, you order your favorite model of goggles, and then you need to download an app on your smartphone or tablet that is compatible with iOS and Android operating systems. The scanning process is simple, but after this, the company spends a couple of days to validate your scan and make sure everything is okay.

The last phase of the process is the actual construction of your desired pair, which will take 1-2 additional days. After this, the product is ready to be packed and delivered to you.

We hope that soon more companies will be able to reproduce and use the technology so that everyone will be able to benefit from a personalized pair of goggles at minimum costs. Keep in mind to choose the preferred pair according to your swimming style and the location – indoor pools or outdoor pools.
